The first fall ride for the Altoona Trail Riders was held
last Saturday with about two dozen riders participating. We rode for 1 ½ hours out from the 110th
Street Trail Head in the area known as “Spider Kingdom”. It did live up to its name as we had a bunch
of spiders to knock down. We then came
back for a picnic lunch of Publix ring subs and salads and chips and tons of
desserts. The theme for the ride was the
Olympics and the riders were challenged to dress up in red, white, blue after
their favorite team or Olympian. Several
folks took the idea to heart. The most
unusual outfit was worn by our president Sue Rogers who wore a blue bathing
suit top and white riding pants, boots and carried a red mallet. The team she was representing was “water
polo”. Her top half represented water
(swimming suit) and the bottom half represented a polo player. It was rather clever. The gold medal went to Jordan Rogers and her
horse “Pretty Boy”. Jordan was dressed as a soccer
player and her horse was painted as a soccer ball. They were adorable. The silver medal went to Lynn Patterson who
was dressed as the Olympic show jumper Beezie Madden. Beezie did win Olympic Gold in China
riding her 17 hand warmblood. Lynn however, was riding
CeeCee the pony. She did look
“authentic”. The bronze medal went to
Traci Crumbaker who was dressed as a gold medal winning basket player. I think everyone had a great time with this
theme and overall enjoyed the ride.
