| Mounted on their Florida Cracker Horses, Altoona Trailriders members Judi Allison (Altoona) and Bill Boston (Umatilla) helped commemorate the 469th anniversary of DeSoto's Landing at De Soto National Memorial in Bradenton, Florida. Dressed in period garb from 1539, they portrayed Spanish conquistadors of DeSoto's cavalry and were able to relate the history of the Cracker Horse and its heritage to the Spanish exploration of Florida. Since the event, legislation has passed making the Florida Cracker Horse officially "Florida's Heritage Horse". Besides their acting skills, the horses, Yucatan Blue and QP Chloe have participated in many Altoona Trailriders functions. ![]() |
