Little Big Econ State Forest
Geneva Florida
ATR Ride
The ATR held a day ride last Saturday at the Little Big Econ State Forest in Geneva. We had about two dozen riders show up for the ride and the day was perfect for riding. Most of the trails were in the shade and the trails out there are very pretty. We started out as one large group, but split into two as the gaited horses disappeared from our site. Many thanks to Pete and Sue Ranto who led the faster group for us. They rode for almost three hours and all had a great time. There was not much water left in the low spots on the trails compared to two weeks ago when I was there, but if it has been rainy there are wet spots on the trail that you can’t get around. We did take the horses over the three wooded bridges, one of which crossed the Little Big Econ River. And on the return trip over the bridges Sue took note of one huge gator sunning itself on a downed tree at the river’s edge, not far from where we were. He sure was big boy! The trail that goes down to the river is part of an old rail road track that was built in the 1930’s. After the ride, everyone had their lunch and then we had ice cream for dessert. It was a good time to visit, meet some new folks and get caught up on horse stories. And we picked up a couple of new members.
