ATR Dessert Ride -

The ride that wasn’t
The Altoona Trail Riders had their Dessert Ride last Saturday but without a ride. The weather was so rainy and cold that all but two brave souls showed up at the Harrington’s Trail Head Ranch without horses but ready to partake of the desserts. Linda Harrington doles out the best spread of food and ambiance of anyone I know. About 80 ATR members were in attendance for the light lunch and loads of yummy desserts. (We always manage to come out for the food!!) The day was also the occasion of the Harrington’s 30th anniversary and Linda had a lovely display of wedding photos and her wedding dress. She gave everyone a keepsake for the day; an embossed paper napkin from their original wedding reception, February 29, 1980. Linda is very detailed with her parties and sets up the tables and buffets with flowers and candies. And the room itself is Jerry’s work building which Linda cleans out and claims for her own for these events. I think Jerry should just give it up to her full-time and move his stuff elsewhere.
Unbeknownst to Jerry and Linda, the Altoona Trail Riders had a little celebration of their own planned for the happy couple. With a little help from daughter Janet Glessner, the couple enjoyed a renewal of their wedding vows in front of “preacher” Andre` Michel. Janet stood in as maid of honor as she did when her mom got married back in 1980. Janet was 13 at the time. Standing in as best man was Ritchie Rogers, wearing Jerry’s wedding suit that fit Ritchie perfectly. Scattering flower petals down the aisle was the delightful flower girl, Marcia Michel. The ceremony was lively and entertaining, yet meaningful. Jerry wished for another wonderful 30 years. (I did not hear Linda chime back likewise!!) The couple was toasted by best man Ritchie and the event was topped off with a wedding cake in the shape of a bee hive. Even though no horses were involved in this ATR function, a great time was had by all those who attended at the Trail Head Ranch. Thank so much to Jerry and Linda for again, a wonderful time and we all wish them many more years of happiness, fun and wedded bliss.
